Episode One Seven Zero: The Rapid-Fire Episode

Recorded April 3rd

This episode is great, truly great.  We talk about all the things.  If you can think of it, we talk about it.  This could be called “What The Brothers Watched, Played and Read for the Six Months They Didn’t Record An Episode” episode.  But that title is absurd.  We argue and agree and fight and get heated and move on.  Essentially, we behave like family who love each other and love to talk about things we love.

Honestly, this could be our Tombstone episode.

Have we over sold it enough?

Trivia is Star Trek themed and very hard.

Episode One Six Eight: We Pressed the Record Button.

Recorded March 13th, 2022

So, many hiatuses does that make for us? Four? Five?  We won’t ask if you missed us because we know the answer is an unqualified “Yes!”.  We get caught up, kind of. Patrick still hasn’t seen The Batman.  But he will in the near future.  We talk the nut-crushing difficulty of Elden Ring.  Andrew decides it isn’t for him.  We chat about the  satisfying final season of The Expanse.  And the equally satisfying resolution to the book series the show is based on.  We hope that the Halo TV series is just a little bit good and are willing to give season 2 of Star Trek Picard a chance after a mixed bag of a first season.

No trivia this week as Andrew is unprepared.

Ninety Three: Weather Reports

Episode Ninety-Three:  Weather Reports

Recorded 6/3/2018

This episode brings the heat.  After a long, detailed discussion about the weather we dive deep the hottest topics since our last episode.   We talk Deadpool 2 and fresh air.  We discuss Solo A Star Wars Story and the idiotic (in our opinion) narrative about it being a “failure”.  The Brothers actually get heated at each other but with good reason.  We talk hot games, Destiny 2 and Monster Hunter World.  We give praise to Jeff Bezos for saving one of our favorite television shows, The Expanse.  Chris and Patrick discuss, briefly, the mad genius of Legion. A full season recap is in the forecast.

Trivia is Deadpool 2 themed.  Thank you to friend of the Podcast, Betsy, for the idea.

Seventy Three: How about that Iron Fist?

Seventy Three:

Recorded 4/2/2017

It has been so long, we know you missed us.  After a month and a half of technical issues and work and life and the need to get sleep.  We are returned to you.

We have so much to talk about.  We recap the latest movie trailers.  We discuss Logan and Legion and The Expanse and The Magicians andLegends of Tomorrow.  However, we don’t discuss Iron Fist, like at all.  Read into that what you will.  Andrew has started American Gods and will soon join the Neil Gaiman Fan Club.  Patrick reads for his career and Chris is finally close to finishing Seveneves.  The Brothers Geek Fireteam has returned to Destiny with the “Age of Triumph” DLC.  Patrick is deeply disappointed in Mass Effect: Andromeda.  Christopher continues to be happy with the latest expansions to World of Warcraft.

Trivia comes to us as a result of Andrew reading Buzzfeed article.  The Boys love it and do quite well.

Seventy Two: Don’t see Shyamalan’s Airbender movie, ever.

Episode Seventy Two: Don’t see Shyamalan’s Airbender movie, ever.
Recorded 2/15/2017
We begin this episode as we begin almost every episode, someone gets yelled at for doing something dumb.  After we get that out of our system, our Re-watch is the series finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender.  We spoil the entire series so if you haven’t watched it, what is your problem?  Patrick poses the important question of what is each of the Brother’s favorite Star Trek: The Next Generation episode? We all saw John Wick Chapter 2.  We try not to spoil that too much.  Andrew describes a spectacular sequence in The Expanse novel Babylon’s Ashes.  Chris and Andrew find a Game Pigeon game they do not enjoy.  Patrick and Chris have embraced the mobile game Fire Emblem Heroes, neither will admit to spending any money on it yet though.

Seventy One: The Ghost in the Podcast

Episode Seventy One: The Ghost in the Podcast
Recorded 1/31/2017
Ever wondered if three adult males can talk for 30 minutes about the title of a movie?  We answer that question and it’s a “yes”.   We discuss the reveal of the new Star Wars movie title “The Last Jedi”.
We debut our Re-Watch segment with “the Ghost in the Shell” (anime).  It prompts all kinds of questions about consciousness, humanity and nature of self.
On the suggestion of a Loyal Listener, we debate what is the greatest fighting game of all time.  Andrew yells “Hadouken” more than is necessary.
We, of course, talk about all the things we saw, read, and played.  And even talk a little soccer while we are at it.Trivia is “The Expanse” themed and it is too easy.

The Expanse Season 1 Rewatch

By Christopher Schmaltz

Damn, what a good show. I binged this show over the holiday break, and was so engrossed in it that I was surprised when the final episode ended and there wasn’t another one. It does such a good job of capturing the books and an even better job of distilling the characters and challenges for an episodic effort. The CG is fantastic. Full stop, no caveats.

I can’t wait till they dig deeper into the rest of Book 1 and the story that unfolds. So much to tell and so much to reveal.

The show also does an excellent job of looking like a plausible human future. The books and this show are tremendous is postulating a future that looks real. From the subtle touches of the high barriers around the Statue of Liberty (to address the rising waters from global warming), to the actual design of human habitation off Earth. The ship designs are great. The idea that ship design would reflect zero g, but also the “gravity” generated by the Epstein drives is excellent.

Bringing Avasarala into the first season was a great idea too. She doesn’t appear until Book 2 I think, but her character is so meaty and fun that it was really smart to introduce her early. Only bummer is her swearing from the books isn’t depicted in the show. They try, but the TV character loses a bit of her no nonsense, I don’t fuck around, from the books.

I love everything about this show.

Fifty: Han did not love Greedo

Recorded 2/10/2016
Discussion
We open our hearts and discuss our favorite geek love stories.  This leads us down some unexpected but not unwelcome rabbit holes.
Seen:
We all have seen Tarantino’s “Hateful Eight”  We all enjoyed it.  Andrew feels it’s a bit safer than most of Tarantino’s films
We all are current with “The Expanse” on SyFy.  We have no issues where season 1 ended.  The addition of the Avasarala character is a welcome change from the first novel.
Read:
Chris is current on “Rat Queens“ most recent issue.  We continue to recommend this title our full throated support.  Andrew has been reading “Magnus Chase and Gods of Asgard” whenever he is at a Barnes and Noble, which admittedly, is quite often. it’s a fun, simple adventure.
Patrick doesn’t offer much.  He is ridiculed.
Played:
Andrew plays “Star Wars: Battlefront”, it’s fun  but not FUN!
Chris, Andrew, and Legendary Listener Shawn played “Destiny” on Xbox One recently and they just sucked.  It was two hours of struggle bussing.
Patrick and Christopher plays “Divinity: Original Sin” on PC together and this prompts deep dives in the “role playing” aspects of the game.  They plan on streaming their adventures on Twitch very soon.
Trivia:
“Deadpool” first appeared in what comic title in what year?  The Boys are surprised by the correct answers.

Forty Nine: Something, Something, Future?

SIZE

Discussion:
We are back and look towards the Future. What are we excited about, not excited about, What looks great, what looks bad and what should have been released 5 years ago.
Seen
All are current with “The Expanse”.  Andrew in particular has been won over after his initial qualms with the show.  Chris binged “The Man in The High Castle”  He can’t say enough about it.  We discuss the seemingly YA adaptation of ‘The Shannara Chronicles” on MTV.  Actress Poppy Drayton gets the not Ugly Award.
Read
Andrew has finished “Nemesis Games”.  It’s not his favorite of “The Expanse” novels.  Chris reads many many comics, like A LOT of comics.  Patrick has read volume 4 of “Saga”  His affection for the characters is waning and even the absurdity of dragon semen is wearing thin.
Played
Christopher and Andrew play “Destiny” on the Xbox One with Legendary Listener Shawn.  It has become a Sunday night tradition.  Patrick plays the free to play “Mech Warrior Online”   Two hours into the game and it’s still fun to blow shit up.
Trivia:
Classic Disney
What is the first full length animated feature film and what year was it released?
Bonus: Why did Disney use so many fairy tales in his early films?

Episode Forty Seven: 2 Days, 22 hours, 43 minutes and 15 seconds from now….
Recorded 12/14/2015.
We read an email from listener Chris Scott, he has some interesting things to say about our Star Wars Trailer One Shot.
Seen:
We all have watched the first episode of “The Expanse” through various channels. Episode 2 will air on 12/16.  We all love the books and can’t wait to see if the series get’s it right.  It has the potential to be “Battlestar Galactica” good.
The “Flash/Arrow” crossover is high quality and launches the “Legends of Tomorrow“ well.
“Arrow” is all over the place.  Almost terrible right now.  Even Stephen Amell’s Not Ugliness isn’t saving it.
Read:
Andrew reads “Nemesis Games” FINALLY the plot gets moving
Christopher reports on “Childhood’s End”.  It is Arthur C. Clarke’s masterpiece.  And he wrote “2001: A Space Odyssey” so…. That’s saying something.
Patrick quizzes us on a fantasy novel he is reading.  It sounds like a lot of things we have read before.
Played:
Andrew and Chris report “Destiny‘s” December Update. Sparrow Racing League and the future of “Destiny” being free to play events rather than huge DLCs.
Andrew has purchased Halo 5 Xbox On but  has yet to hook it up.  He has been BUSY!
Patrick is playing “Fallout 4” and streaming on Twitch.  He dies a lot.  It’s pretty awesome.

Trivia:
In “Episode VI: Return of The Jedi“, Yoda, on his death bed, describes the Dark Side of the Force in 3 words. What are those words?
The Boys fail, rather terribly.
