Episode One Nine Zero: Everything but the Kitchen Sink
Recorded December 5, 2023
We discuss basically everything in this episode. We talk For All Mankind, Invincible, GenV, The Boys, The Gilded Age, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, even Zack Snyder movies. Someone mentioned Dune, because someone always mentions Dune.
Patrick gives us his favorite Christmas movies list. Chris and Andrew have minor issues with it but agree it is a solid effort.
No one picks Elf as an all time great Christmas movie. And we are correct.
Nothing has been as anticipated for The Brothers as this movie. We have said since the very first episode of this podcast that our collective dream is a truly well adapted version of Frank Herbert’s classic novel. David Lynch’s 1984 abomination forever lives in BrothersGeek Hall of Shame. The 2000 SyFy miniseries didn’t hit the target. But Denis Villeneuve’s Dune has hit the bullseye and then some. We each have seen the film at least twice and we each want to want it again. We are profuse with our praise of this instant classic.
No trivia this episode as Andrew can’t think of a question that is grand enough.
Episode One Four Seven: Connectitude is certainly a word
Recorded September 10th
We watched the Dune trailer a lot this week. And we talk about it a lot.
We talk about other things too. Lovecraft Country, Gloomhaven, Divinity: Original Sin, WonderWoman1984. But honestly, we talk mostly about the Dune trailer. Christopher admits to real emotion about it.
Watch the trailer below and let us know how it makes you feel.
Trivia is once against Wonder Woman themed. It should be easy, but it isn’t
We get political. And, not surprisingly, it gets heated. We discuss casting news for The Witcher Netflix series and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. We are pleased with both. The Brothers all watch Jack Ryan and overwhelming feel “meh” about it. We all have watched Iron Fist Season 2 to varying degrees of completion. Marvel’s weakest television entry has improved but not by much. Patrick completes the long running comic series Invincible and it finishes with a satisfying ending. Chris and Andrew have embraced new book series. Patrick returns to Overwatch. Chris and Andrew sell Destiny 2’s latest expansion Forsaken to a reluctant audience of one.
Trivia is The Witcher themed and Chris is successful.
It’s a great episode when we have hopeful news to report on for Frank Herbert’s Dune. We remember the legacy of a beloved character actor from Firefly. Andrew is deep into Monstress and it is messing with his head. Christopher reads a fantasy classic by Patricia A. McKillip. Patrick finishes The Name of The Wind and can’t wait to start the next book in Rothfuss’s trilogy. All the Brothers have seen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, each feels slightly different about it. Andrew convinces everyone to download a gaming app for IOS. Trivia is Dune themed and epically difficult.
“Star Wars: Rogue One” news! We tell you what we know, which isn’t much, admittedly.
New trailers for “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation” hit the internet. Go watch them! We hope you aren’t disappointed. If you are, remember, we had nothing to do with them.
Seen:
Andrew re-watches “Marvel’s the Avengers” with #1 Fan Adria. He re-experiences the joy of the movie with someone who had never seen it before.
Christopher loves “Helix” and “Twelve Monkeys” . The former is still filled with rupturing pustules.
Patrick sees “Insurgent”. The filmmakers had more money to spend this time around.
Read:
Andrew and Christopher are current with “Thor” and “Batman Eternal”. Both have very strong recent issues. “Batman Eternal” revealed its “Big Bad”, we aren’t disappointed.
Christopher recommends “Leviathan Wakes” by James S.A. Corey. He is enthralled.
Patrick calls “A Dance with Dragons” the best novel of “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.
The Brothers dissect a pivotal scene in “Dune.” Andrew is honestly amazed with the novel.
Played:
Andrew plays “Destiny”. Everyone is shocked.
Christopher has become enamored with the side scrolling platformer “Ori and the Blind Forest”. He calls it the most beautiful game he has ever played.
Patrick describes the ease and addictiveness and math skills required for “Oregon Settler”. He swears it’s actually fun.
Episode 30 – “I have been, and always shall be, your friend.”
recorded March 1, 2015
We discuss the passing of Leonard Nimoy, a great artist and cultural icon.
We examine his legacy in our lives and the impact of his work.
Seen
Christopher continues to re-watch “Stargate SG1” with his wife, Susan. He also watched “Batman/Superman: Public Enemies”, the animated DC feature. He is surprised with how entertaining it is.
Andrew re-watches “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”. All agree it holds up very nicely and Nimoy’s performance is perfect.
Patrick and Andrew finish season 1 of “Agent Carter” and wish it had finished a little bigger and bolder.
Read
Christopher is current with “Batman Eternal”, “Thor”, and has started “Star Wars: Darth Vader” “Vader” might be the best of the newly launched Marvel Star Wars comics.
Andrew is also current with “Batman Eternal”. His reading of “Dune” has slowed due to technical issues. He plans to follow “Dune” with “The Martian” and then give “Master and Commander” another try.
Patrick is 7 hours in the 48,920 hours of “A Dance with Dragons”. He is already in love, far and away better than “A Feast for Crows”.
Played
Christopher has been grinding on “Destiny”, leveling a Warlock. He plays “Evolve” and continues to be bad at it. He had downloaded “Clash of Clans” and it is a welcome diversion.
Andrew plays “Destiny” with Christopher just today. He reports on Daily Heroic Story “The Wakening”. He will start a Hunter and begin leveling in the near future.
Patrick-attempted to play “Destiny” but encountered major connectivity issues. He downloaded the mobile game “Oregon Trail: American Settler”. It is a sequel of sorts to the game we all loved as kids. He feels a kinship to it as he himself is a settler of Oregon.
Special Report: Christopher’s daughter Kristin reports on Supernatural-Con, she fan-girls. She reports on the “specialty convention experience”.
Trivia:
Which Harry Potter novel has sold the most copies, and how many?
Our collective Man-Crush Benedict Cumberbatch will be Doctor Strange. He’s never bad and usually extremely good in everything. We approve.
Marvel projects on Netflix will be abundant. Is over saturation approaching?
“Terminator:Genisys” trailer debuts. It has a unpronounce-able name, a crusty old Arnold and Daenerys Targaryen with brown hair. We remain skeptical.
Correction: Andrew identified the “not ugly” woman in “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” as Eliza Taylor when in fact her name is Teresa Palmer.
Seen:
Comic Book show Mid-season finales are discussed in detail. Some are stronger than others, however, we remain hopeful for all. Patrick continues his Netflix/Anime trek and reports on “Sword Art Online”. Christopher and Andrew are intrigued.
Read:
Patrick finishes “Dune”. It’s amazing. He will continue the series. He has started “Storm Front” on his Audible app.
Christopher is current with “Batman: Eternal”. It has become an act of will.
Andrew read Invincible #15. Battle Beast returns and he remains bat-sh*t.
Played:
Christopher has level capped his “main” on WoW. He is enjoying building his garrison. He has followers. It’s all terribly MMO-ey.
All the Boys play “The Dark Below”, “Destiny’s” first expansion. We are enjoying the new content. The Quest missions are challenging.
Patrick describes the new raid, Crota’s End. The words “insane”, “hard”, and “fun” are all used in different combinations.
Trivia:
Name the highest grossing “Christmas” film ever and it’s box office take.
We took a week off and we come back better than ever!
News: We report on the scheduled release dates for every comic book movie for the next decade ( or so). And we go on too long about Marvel’s Civil War mini-series from 8 years ago.
The Brothers Geek love “Fury”. One of us hates Brad Pitt a little too much then is reasonable.
Christopher is fully embracing the new “Doctor Who”. Patrick is behind.
Andrew and Christopher love the first two episodes of season 5 of “The Walking Dead”. Patrick doesn’t watch the show, is wrong.
Read:
Christopher is racing to finish book one of the “Powder Mage trilogy”. The story has evolved in some very interesting directions.
Andrew reads “Hawkeye” by Matt Fraction. He loves the new character of Kate Bishop.
Patrick listens to Frank Hebert’s “Dune” on the Audible app. He loves it. The Dune love-fest follows shortly.
Played:
Lots and Lots and Lots of “Destiny”. We have issues with the story (as it makes no sense) but the game play is unquestionably fun. We all have 20+ leveled characters.
Trivia:
The boys are challenged on a question concerning one of our favorite and more prolific comic book writers, Brian Michael Bendis
