Episode Sixty Five: Chris doesn’t watch horror movies, He lives them.

Recorded 10/31/2016

Happy Halloween everyone!  Our episode is sppooooookkkkeyyy. Except not at all, unless you count Christopher’s harrowing tale of Halloween of 2015.  We discuss the announcement that Penny Dreadful will continue on in an upcoming comic book series.  You’ll likely recall from a previous podcast episode that we had issues with the series finale, like major issues.  We wander into a discussion of violence on television as Chris and Andrew tell Patrick about the new season of The Walking Dead. Christopher sings the praises of a comic book series written by Marjorie Liu and drawn by Sana Takeda called Monstress.  He insists Andrew and Patrick read it.  We all play more Destiny: Rise of Iron.  We report on the goofy fun of Festival of the Lost, wishing there was a little more THERE, there.

Trivia is horror movie themed.  We are not horror movie people.

Discussion
We open our hearts and discuss our favorite geek love stories.  This leads us down some unexpected but not unwelcome rabbit holes.
Seen:
We all have seen Tarantino’s “Hateful Eight”  We all enjoyed it.  Andrew feels it’s a bit safer than most of Tarantino’s films
We all are current with “The Expanse” on SyFy.  We have no issues where season 1 ended.  The addition of the Avasarala character is a welcome change from the first novel.
Read:
Chris is current on “Rat Queens“ most recent issue.  We continue to recommend this title our full throated support.  Andrew has been reading “Magnus Chase and Gods of Asgard” whenever he is at a Barnes and Noble, which admittedly, is quite often. it’s a fun, simple adventure.
Patrick doesn’t offer much.  He is ridiculed.
Played:
Andrew plays “Star Wars: Battlefront”, it’s fun  but not FUN!
Chris, Andrew, and Legendary Listener Shawn played “Destiny” on Xbox One recently and they just sucked.  It was two hours of struggle bussing.
Patrick and Christopher plays “Divinity: Original Sin” on PC together and this prompts deep dives in the “role playing” aspects of the game.  They plan on streaming their adventures on Twitch very soon.
Trivia:
“Deadpool” first appeared in what comic title in what year?  The Boys are surprised by the correct answers.

Forty Nine: Something, Something, Future?

SIZE

Discussion:
We are back and look towards the Future. What are we excited about, not excited about, What looks great, what looks bad and what should have been released 5 years ago.
Seen
All are current with “The Expanse”.  Andrew in particular has been won over after his initial qualms with the show.  Chris binged “The Man in The High Castle”  He can’t say enough about it.  We discuss the seemingly YA adaptation of ‘The Shannara Chronicles” on MTV.  Actress Poppy Drayton gets the not Ugly Award.
Read
Andrew has finished “Nemesis Games”.  It’s not his favorite of “The Expanse” novels.  Chris reads many many comics, like A LOT of comics.  Patrick has read volume 4 of “Saga”  His affection for the characters is waning and even the absurdity of dragon semen is wearing thin.
Played
Christopher and Andrew play “Destiny” on the Xbox One with Legendary Listener Shawn.  It has become a Sunday night tradition.  Patrick plays the free to play “Mech Warrior Online”   Two hours into the game and it’s still fun to blow shit up.
Trivia:
Classic Disney
What is the first full length animated feature film and what year was it released?
Bonus: Why did Disney use so many fairy tales in his early films?

Seen:

We have a looooonnnnngggg, in depth, and, erudite discussion on the current state of Fall television. What we like, what we wish was better, what we are slowly losing interest in and what we have already lost interest in entirely.

All have seen “Bridge of Spies” We each feel differently.

Patrick has major issues with “Crimson Peak” It’s weak. On many levels.

Read:

Andrew has consumed “Abbadon’s Gate” The Expanse is a fantastic series. He loves so many characters and wishes his favorites would return more often. Christopher teases he won’t have to wait very long.

Patrick is reading “Aeronaut’s Windlass” by pod-cast favorite Jim Butcher. It’s mostly just fun, he wishes it was great.
Christopher is reading like 29 comics books right now and “Aeronaut’s Windlass” He feels similar to Patrick.

Played:

Patrick plays “Betrayal on House on the Hill” with his Partners in Crime Shane and Gabby. He was the Betrayer! Thing became very intense.
Andrew and Chris continue to love all the content in “Destiny: The Taken King“.
Andrew says it’s almost too much and he needs to focus more and get things done.

Patrick and Andrew finish season 1 of “Agent Carter” and wish it had finished a little bigger and bolder.
Read
Christopher is current with “Batman Eternal”, “Thor”, and has started “Star Wars: Darth Vader” “Vader” might be the best of the newly launched Marvel Star Wars comics.

Andrew is also current with “Batman Eternal”. His reading of “Dune” has slowed due to technical issues. He plans to follow “Dune” with “The Martian” and then give “Master and Commander” another try.
Patrick is 7 hours in the 48,920 hours of “A Dance with Dragons”. He is already in love, far and away better than “A Feast for Crows”.
